About Akila
My name is Akila Venkatesh and like many of you, I would like to make a positive difference in the world, hence this blog. I am currently an elementary school teacher and I have a passion for social justice and education (amongst other things; dancing is pretty awesome). :) I first had the idea of cataloging my experiences, observations and insights of ‘helping the world’ in 2008, when I started to take more action in my community by getting involved in various fundraisers and, as a teacher, was aware of the importance of education in social justice. I knew I wanted to share my thoughts and create greater awareness, so I started to take note of all the things I would come across in my everyday experiences that involved social responsibility, with the eventual goal of sharing these observations with all of you. When I came across Neil Pasricha’s blog, 1000awesomethings.com, I was inspired to keep count of these insights in a similar way. It may take me a while to get to 1000 entries, but hopefully in working towards this goal, I will help create some food for thought and inspiration for people to help the world in a variety of ways.
